Investment Banking. Physical Therapy. Professional Soccer player. These are just some of the possible career paths for the class of 2024-2025. This year’s class is exploring a variety of opportunities in many positions, whether that be in our community or around the world. The year 2025 is all about technology and those who know how to use it. Technological jobs are in especially high demand in the corporate world, but, surprisingly, this year’s seniors are straying away from it. Mrs. Taddeo’s Block 1 Calculus class was polled to see what the Class of 2025 is planning to do later in life.
Out of the 24 total students in the class, 24 of them are planning to go to college. That being said, only 5 have been accepted so far. As previously mentioned, the corporate world is big on computer specialists, but these students seem to be aiming for different career paths. This may be because of a lack of interest in computer science, or it could just depend on the group being surveyed. Many in Mrs. Taddeo’s Block 1 class wanted to become doctors, with 8 out of 24 students wanting to go into medicine. One of these students includes Thomas Becht, a senior who wants to go into Physical therapy because he “wants to help people get better”. Not only are the career options diverse but the colleges as well, ranging from Penn State all the way to the University of Alabama. The majority of polled students do not plan on living in New Jersey for the rest of their adult lives.
When interviewed about the class of 2025, guidance counselor, Mr. Roman, commented on helping students make life plans saying, “We can student depending… most of them already have a plan they made with their families or student advisors”. He tries to help students figure out what they want to do and if they already know then he helps them with their goals. Interestingly, Mr. Roman said that there may have been a possible increase in student interest in social service jobs like counselors and nurses. Our Vice Principal, Mr. Bouroult, said that he’s seen an increase in technology jobs, which is not surprising considering the demand for these jobs in the modern workforce. Saying, “In my twelve years as an administrator, since I started until now, the increase in tech jobs in specific, anything relating to social media, websites. Any of those tech-savvy positions. A huge increase in the last ten to twelve years.”
The state of our economy has also influenced these seniors. “A reason I wanted to go to Tennessee was because the taxes are lower in the South.” Emily O’Dell told the Quill. It is increasingly expensive to live in our world and our seniors are considering this. However, all of the poll participants are optimistic for the future. For example, Charlee Perna, who has already been accepted to a university (congrats), is very excited about life after high school.
The Class of 2025 has its eyes on the future, but students are planning to enjoy the rest of their high school experience. One of these individuals is senior Morgan Miller, who would like to “enjoy every moment of it and maintain my grades but also have fun and enjoy every moment”. These are the plans of the class of 2025, representing a microcosm of the next generation of America and the world. The only thing MK has left to say is congratulations, and we wish you the best of luck in whatever comes next in life.
