This year, Morris Knolls proudly welcomes new counselor, Mrs. Palanker, whose caseload includes students all over the alphabet. She is already helping them along the complex path of high school, and strives to always be a “safe space for students when they need it.”
Mrs. Palanker, a graduate of Cornwall University, received her Bachelors in Psychology and Masters in Counseling Specialization in Schools. Throughout her seven years as a counselor she has worked in High School, Middle school, and Elementary school where she “learned that there are many different approaches working in the counseling world.”
A fellow colleague, Mrs. Evans—the Gifted and Talented Coordinator—happily described her as “warm and welcoming,” adding that “it’s apparent she loves her family and decorating.” This is clearly evident to anyone who has the opportunity to take a seat in her cozy, inviting office.
Her reason for ultimately deciding to work in a High School is because she has always liked it the best. In her time as a highschooler she felt she didn’t always find comfort or enough guidance at school and wants to change that for her own students.
Students are already speaking highly of Ms. Palanker. Senior, Brianna Colli, stated “she helps me so much with the college process” and “I feel a lot less stressed”.
In her own early academic career, she attended Nutley High School. As a young girl her favorite teacher was her third grade teacher, who reminded her of “Ms. Honey” from the movie Matilda. As an active high schooler, Mrs. Palanker participated in Softball, Basketball, and Dance.
Nowadays to stay busy, Mrs. Palnaker is a die-hard Taylor Swift fan and likes to hang out with her two young kids. This summer, she spent time down the shore with her entire family. At Knolls she plans on possibly being involved in the softball and dance programs if the opportunity arises.
Ultimately, in her time here Mrs. Palanker looks forward to experiencing all Knolls has to offer and working with its wonderful guidance department!
