News has finally gotten out! Morris Knolls will be hosting its first-ever Winter Formal for juniors and seniors on Feb. 7 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
This brand-new event has been in the works since last year, and excitement is starting to build among upperclassmen. “We’ve been exploring these ideas since last year, but the dance is finally coming into action!” Says SGA member Ava Miner.
Still, not everyone is sure how to feel about the sudden addition to the school calendar. Junior Sara Stevenson encourages her peers to make the most of the opportunity. “People who may not feel like going should really capitalize on this experience,” she said.
Junior Natalie Gross added her own take on what makes events like these so special explaining, “It’s safe to say that the most memorable times as a teenage girl are getting ready with your friends, listening to music, all while wearing rollers in your hair and dancing around in cute pjs.”
Many students agree that this winter dance is just what MK needs during the slower months. “There’s a weird gap in winter where it’s just all school and nothing exciting really happens,” explained Junior Anshika Pradhan, “so it’s a good way to boost student morale when everyone’s so busy being locked indoors.”
With the news out, one question remains: what to wear? Since this is MK’s first winter formal, students don’t have much to base their outfits on, but the SGA has announced that the event will be semi-formal, encouraging students to wear something similar to homecoming attire.
A group of juniors, Keara Gill, Natalie Gross, and Violet Rogers share their go-to places to shop. The trio agreed that Windsor at the Rockaway Mall is a favorite for quick, affordable and cute dresses. For those looking online, they recommend popular brands like Oh Polly, KissProm, and Lucy in the Sky.
“I’m excited to be a part of the first ever winter formal at MK,” said Violet Rogers. “I’m grateful to be in a school where these spontaneous dances come out of the blue. Now I have something to look forward to during the tougher months.”
Of course, opinions still vary. “It’s going to be so much less awkward because the underclassmen won’t be there,” said Keara Gill, laughing. “But honestly, it kind of reminds me of a middle school dance. I just wish it were on a Friday instead of a Saturday.”
For those planning to go all out, be sure to email Junior Sara Stevenson: [email protected] for custom bouquets for the dance, or any other upcoming MK events!
Whether you’re dressing up with friends, hitting the dance floor, or just curious about what the first-ever winter formal will bring, one thing is for sure: Morris Knolls students finally have something new and exciting to look forward to this winter.
