The MK Senior Prom is an event filled with memories, coordination, and lots of pictures. It will take place on May 28 at the Tides in North Haledon, and the preparation has already begun. Students and their families have bought tickets, purchased attire, and started planning their pre-prom photo shoot locations.
Seniors are collectively excited for the event, as many are striving for the day to be picture-perfect and special. Being the last big dance together, students aspire to not only look their best but also spend time with those people who mean a lot to them. Senior class Treasurer, Jack Carney shares, “I am hoping to make good memories with my friends, and just enjoy everyone being together.”
Specifically, the girls this year have started a trend of getting dresses that are more fun and glamorous than their Junior Prom dresses. Each year, there is an Instagram account where girls post photos of their dresses in hopes of having no repeats. This year’s account @mkseniorprom_26 is managed by Emma Sellmann who shared her thoughts on this year’s dress trends, highlighting, “I think people are making their dresses more extravagant, and going out with a bang. Definitely a great final look for the seniors!” It is truly exciting to see everyone’s various dresses while also noticing the subsequent trends with sparkles, golds, and a dazzling theme.
Aside from the fashion, prom is expected to be a night of fun. This means dancing. Last year, people were pleased with the DJ- glad that the songs were classics instead of a continuous stream of current songs. Songs that brought the energy of the 2010’s like “Beauty and the Beat” were among favorites. Hoping to rekindle the fun, seniors are looking forward to those classics that never fail to make the room dance.
In asking the seniors what kind of music they want to hear, it is a popular opinion that people want to bring back the songs of 2016, specifically. Current social media hashtags and trends are relaying that 2026 is the new 2016, and students want this carried into prom.
Bringing the enthusiasm, Senior Mady Barchetto notes, “As 2016 music is resurfacing, it would be awesome to hear some music from them… It’s relevant on TikTok.”
Knowing people are ready and eager to have a good time together at the Tides does not just make seniors excited; many adults are looking forward to the special event as well. Senior Class advisor Ms. Distasio she expressed, “I am excited to see this year’s senior class for one final special event before graduation.”
Senior Prom, being a final event for the class of 2026, is an important time for students to have fun, be safe, and be happy. Celebrating the moment is so important, especially for a memorable occasion like this.
The MK senior prom takes multiple hands to come together, but knowing how special it is makes it all worth it.
