Countless hours spent in rehearsal, diligence, and pure talent are gradually coming together to create this year’s MK Theater fall production of “All in the Timing.” Set to hit the stage November 13th, 14th, and 15th, this play is bound to show audiences a time filled with laughter and connection.
The show is composed of six one-act plays, each featuring a different storyline. Actor and senior Rachel Breen described the production as “a variety of absurd stories that all have contrasting tones and storylines, each of them being a different take on comedy.” The comedic genre is how the show is portrayed on its exterior, but in reality, the show reveals a deeper meaning about how human connection is what we are all looking for.
Returning director Ms. Mazur celebrates her 20th year directing for MK Theater productions. This show marks a full circle moment for her, as she directed All in the Timing during her first and tenth years with MK, and now her 20th. When asked about her creative process, Ms. Mazur responded, “I have a vision for the show, and I like to describe it as broad strokes. I like to come into the rehearsal space and be collaborative with the actors so they can trust my process. I use my space like a laboratory.”
Daily rehearsals have been running from 3-5 p.m. after school for six weeks, and tech week will bring rehearsals from 4-9 p.m. Everything comes together during rehearsal time, one important factor being a bond within the cast. Actor and senior Vivienne Berthelot explained that the chemistry between the cast members is a strong part of the production. “There are a lot of people returning from the past years’ shows. At the same time, there are a lot of new people, which brings new perspectives.”
A complex show such as “All in the Timing” is difficult to sum up within a word, but when cast members were asked to describe the show in just a couple of words, they came up with “eccentric”, “fast-paced”, “diverse”, “observational”, and “thought-provoking.”
While there are many MK Theater students returning, acting is new ground for a few actors in the production. “It’s my first play ever,” sophomore Elizabeth Jaymes explained. “While I have been in musicals, I’ve never acted without singing or dancing. It’s interesting to see more legitimate acting through plays.” New to the school and the world of acting, freshman Tristan Sacco shared, “I wasn’t very confident about acting, and I was intimidated by all of the talent around me. Getting into the show has been a confidence booster!”
Hilarious, a bit absurd, yet filled with heart, the Morris Knolls Theater production of “All in the Timing” will be an unforgettable performance! Show support for the cast while enjoying their noteworthy rendition of this production, a reflection of the creativity and meaning that the MK theater community stands for.
