Winter has finally set in, and the Morris Knolls Ski Club is geared up for another exciting season on the slopes! Advised by Ms. Malec, the club welcomes students of all skill levels, whether students are carving turns for the first time or they practically sleep in ski boots. No gear? No problem. Rentals are easy, and the club takes care of the details so members can focus on the fun.
Every year, Ski Club plans five trips to Camelback Mountain in Pennsylvania, a favorite spot for its wide trails, big mountain feel, and adventure-packed terrain. Each year, if interest is high enough, the club even plans a weekend getaway to Stowe Mountain in Vermont! Ski Club is definitely the place for great group trips, good vibes, and unforgettable winter memories.
Junior Sammy Vitale, shares “Everyone is super friendly at Camelback. I remember getting to the top of the mountain with my friends and another student from a different ski club offered to take a picture of my friends and I as the sun was setting behind us. We not only got a great picture that day, but also a bunch of good runs since the mountain isn’t as packed on Thursdays as it would be on the weekend! That’s another thing that’s really great about ski club!”
While students wait for the first official Ski Club Trip, many club members and their non ski-club friends are hitting the slopes at Mountain Creek! In fact, some avid skiers prefer the convenience…much as the Ski Club hits the road to big mountains, many MK students spend their free days exploring more local gems. The winter scene around Morris Knolls is full of options, and that’s part of what makes this season so much fun.
Mountain Creek, a staple for many local skiers and snowboarders opened on Dec. 6. Located less than an hour from Morris Knolls, Mountain Creek is where a lot of the action happens. Advanced skiers and snowboarders often head straight for South Peak, home of the terrain park where riders throw down steezy backflips, slide rails, and show off their style. Meanwhile, Vernon Peak, the main area, offers classic cruising trails, the iconic Red Tail Lodge, and the Cabriolet lift posted all over Instagram.
Regulars like MK students Keara Gill and Natalie Gross know the Creek scene well. Keara loves that “Mountain Creek’s trails and snowmaking have only gotten better,” with the $5 million upgrade to their snowmaking system. Plus, she notes a crucial point: “the Waffle Cabin is always open” (arguably the most important part of any ski day). Gross prefers Mountain Creek, as well explaining how it has “more trails, is closer to Green pond residents, and there is always a bunch of friends to ride with.” It’s safe to say that good snow, good food, and good people are hard to beat.
Whether joining the Ski Club’s big trips or planning your own weekend adventure, this winter is shaping up to be a season full of fresh snow, fun rides, and memories on every mountain. So grab your gear, gather your friends, and get ready, ski season is officially here!
