Knolls proudly boasts nine spring season varsity sports teams that enable students to stay active and strong before the end of the school year. After a long season of hard work, this spring looked good for Knolls athletes!
Down at Caruso Field, where the new turf field was renovated for the beginning of the season, the lacrosse teams protected the nest! Girls Lacrosse team Senior co-captain, Erin Laudati, shared that the key to their season was that “whenever there were tough games, they always worked as a team, no matter what.” The Boys Lacrosse team shared the same determination as they tried to better their record over the course of the season. They have a current record of 9-9.
Around the field, student track stars were breaking records! The Women’s 4x100m shuttle hurdle relay of Juliana DeCongelio, Emma Ramos, Sara Pietraszewski, and Wendy Graziani broke a 10-year old Morris Knolls record in their meet at Morris Hills High School on April 18. Fellow teammate Cooper James came in first at a meet against Parsippany Hills on April 7 in the Shot Put. Overall, the team has been doing well as they managed to hold their 5-season undefeated streak of dual meets through their hard work and grit.
The golf teams have also been thriving! The boys have a winning record of 8-7 and are looking to continue it with their NJAC Championship tournament that started on May 20. The girls’ golf team has an undefeated record of 17-0 this season. The team includes junior Olivia Gaglione, who is committed to play on the Division 1 University of Richmond golf team when she graduates. Fellow teammate, and senior Lauren Dunko shares that “Olivia is a great golfer and teammate, and she is very dedicated!”
Softball and baseball teams are also dominating their conferences. Senior Anna Chominsky says the reason for their winning softball record of 22-3 is that they have “really good team chemistry this year.” While the girls are dominating on their diamond, the boys are also working tirelessly. Trying to continue their winning record of 15-11, they are ready for their first round of states starting May 27.
And lastly, Boys Tennis has a current winning record of 8-7. They look to finish their season today, May 21 against tough competitor, Livingston. Junior tennis player Chris Boyle says that “although the team’s record wasn’t the greatest, this team is constantly improving and demonstrating their good sportsmanship.”
Clearly, so much activity takes place at Knolls when the 2:30 p.m. bell rings. While most kids leave school and are off to other after school activities, student-athletes hang back for a practice or game. The records and kind words from teammates go to show how well Morris Knolls athletes represent eagle pride. In the words of the Athletic Director Laura Palmerezzi, “As we are moving towards the end of the regular season, I’m excited to see our teams keep the momentum going, continue to improve, and finish strong as we head into states!”
